Event with The Wharton Club of Africa


The Wharton Club of Africa is a professional business organisation established in Sept. 2009, independent of but recognised by The Wharton School, as the official global Wharton Alumni association for all Wharton alumni (globally and across the Africa Continent), who have business interests with respect to the Africa Continent. A primary goal of WCA is to facilitate the Africa-related business interests of its members with other WCA members; and between firms/professionals and WCA members. Members are over 1,000, with 45% based in Africa. Leadership team consists of a global corporate Board, sector chairs for 8 sectors (private equity, wealth management, energy & natural resources, healthcare, infrastructure incl. power, agribusiness, real estate, legal services), and regional WCA country director structure, approved April 2011. Structure currently includes 42 countries in Africa, Asia & Australia, Middle East, UK, Europe & Russia, USA, Canada, and Brazil.
WCA Asia Business Connection Trip
The Wharton Club of Africa is pleased to invite you to participate in the WCA Asia Business Connection Trip to Beijing and Shanghai, April 22 - 24th. This is a key 2013 WCA strategic initiative and WCA appreciates the support of The Wharton Club of Beijing and Shanghai who are facilitating WCA in this initiative and inter-club relationships.
Why this Asia Business Connection Trip for WCA? China is currently the #1 source of international direct investment capital for Africa and the purpose of this trip is to support WCA firm members in establishing and/or strengthening business connections in China including for Africa – China strategic / financial partners and investors, strategic access to Chinese markets for their business (and vice versa access for China firms to African /WCA businesses and investment opportunities across Sectors), access to management expertise by sector, and other business opportunities.
The WCA Delegation includes the WCA Chairman, board and firm members, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and corporate partners across Sectors. WCA sectors represented include private equity, wealth management, investment banking, Energy & Natural Resources, Infrastructure (incl. Power), Healthcare/ Pharma, Technology & Telecom, Media, Real Estate, Manufacturing, and Agribusiness. WCA has also invited members of other Wharton/Penn alumni clubs to join including from the UK, Middle East, and USA. Itinerary consists of CEO/Entrepreneur Breakfast Series, one-on-one business meetings during the day by sector, and the evening Africa Business Receptions & Investment Panels hosted by Wharton Club of Beijing, the Wharton Club of Shanghai, and WCA.
